About this course

The purpose of this course is to provide you with the skills, knowledge, and training you need to successfully become an Energy Auditor in the DOE National Weatherization Program. The HEP Energy Auditor Certification represents the highest level of knowledge, skills, and abilities of a professional home energy auditor.

NOTE: Exam fees are not included with the course. When you're ready to schedule your written ($450) or field ($825) exam, you'll be asked to pay for the exam at that time.

1. Orientation Materials
This course is self-paced, so you don’t need to be logged in at any specific time. You can get started immediately after you enroll and the course materials will remain in your account with minimum guaranteed access for 12 months (1 year) after enrollment.
2. Introduction to Weatherization
An energy auditor is a residential energy efficiency professional who evaluates the energy efficiency, health and safety of a home, and conducts field measurements to identify areas for savings. The Energy Auditor produces this information as a report and makes recommendations to the customer.
3. Generating a Work Order
Creating a work order is critical to implementing WAP-approved projects when performing an energy audit.
4. Safe Work Practices
Safe work practices are critical to the success of a well-executed retrofit project. It is in everyone's best interest that workers return home the same way they went to work. This module will discuss some of the principal workplace safety requirements of energy auditors.
5. Deferral of Services
Not all job projects are created equal. A job may need to be postponed until certain situations are resolved. This module will outline the procedures for deferral of services.
6. Intermediate Math
7. General Construction and Carpentry
To be an effective auditor, the auditor must be familiar with general home construction and carpentry to recommend the appropriate repairs to a weatherization crew.
8. House as a System
The house operates as a system, meaning that all of the components inside the house interact with each other. Energy Auditors must understand these interactions to plan cost-effective retrofits.

30. Get Ready for the BPI Energy Auditor Online (Written) Exam
You did it! Now it's time for the main event. We have a large test bank of practice questions to prepare you for the BPI Energy Auditor Online (Written) Exam. Take all of the practice exams. Look up the questions that you got wrong. This will help reinforce that particular study topic. When you have conducted your review, retake the practice exams. You can take them as many times as you like. Remember to keep the formula sheet and BPI standards handy. You may use the formula sheet and the BPI standards on the actual BPI exam.

The BPI Energy Auditor online exam has 100 multiple-choice questions, and a minimum score of 70% is considered passing. Before attempting the BPI exam, you should score at least 70% on the practice exams here in the course.

How does this course work?
This 29 module course is delivered entirely online. This course is self-paced and you can set your own schedule to complete the materials. During your year of access the instructor will be in the course answering questions on the discussion board. After successfully completing the course, you will be able to generate a certificate of completion.
How long do I have access to the materials?
Students can pre-order but will not be able to access the full course materials or earn a certificate of completion until the course is fully published. Once the course is published any students who have pre-ordered will then have access to the course materials for one year (365 days). After the one year of access expires, access can be extended by joining as a HeatSpring member. A single membership extends access to course materials for all past enrollments.
Is there a certificate of completion?
Yes, when you complete this course you are eligible for a certificate of completion from HeatSpring. You can download your certificate as soon as you have completed all of the course requirements. Students can easily share their verified certificates on their LinkedIn profiles using our LinkedIn integration.
