Earning the Healthy Housing Principles (HHP) Certificate of Knowledge proves your knowledge of how the different components of a home interact to affect occupant health. Homeowners and renters are a part of the house as a system and a recipient of the downstream effects of how they follow these eight principles:

• Keep it clean
• Keep it dry
• Keep it pest-free
• Keep it contaminant-free
• Keep it safe
• Keep it ventilated
• Keep it comfortable
• Keep it maintained

Anyone interested in the connection between human health symptoms and the possible home issues that could be causing them should consider earning the Healthy Housing Principles Certificate. Here are a few common professionals that obtain the HHP:

• Utility program representatives
• Remodelers, insulation, HVAC, and other trades professionals
• Home inspectors and realtors
• Federal, state, and local government program managers and staff
• Community health workers, in-home nurses, and asthma educators
• County and city health department staff
• Public and private medical facility staff and administrators
• Secondary and post-secondary teachers and students

Training: An exam prep course is recommended but not required. We recommend the BPI Healthy Home Evaluator (HHE) Certification Exam Prep course, because it includes the topics covered on the HHP Certificate of Knowledge Exam.

Scheduling: Because the exam is an online knowledge-based exam, it may be taken at any time from a computer connected to the internet. Candidates have one year from the date of HHP exam purchase to complete the exam. A BPI Proctor is not required to be present or record the HHP exam session. Students will be able to sign up for the exam from the prep course.

Exam Cost: $109

Exam Format: The exam contains 100-multiple choice questions.

BPI Certified Professionals can earn 8 BPI CEU credits by passing the HHP exam and uploading their HHP Certificate of Knowledge through BPI’s CEU Account.
