I think this is an excellent intro course to understand the financial impact and trade-offs for the varied energy options for a microgrid, including the way renewable energy, the price of fuel, interest rates, and load flexibility can all be explored in a continuum.

The tool Homer Pro is good to explore, and to be used in today & future smart cities

This is a very good would recommended it to anyone who's interested in renewable energy systems and distributed generation.
