Introduction

Knowledge Checks are powerful formative assessment tools that instructors can use to enhance the learning environment for their students. HeatSpring leverages AI to analyze video transcripts and generate relevant assessment questions, providing students with immediate feedback on their understanding of the material. By implementing Knowledge Checks, instructors can provide students an opportunity to understand where their knowledge gaps might be and go back for more review.  We recommend 1 Knoweldge Check for every 15 minutes of instructional video.  A Knowledge Check can have 2 - 3 questions and should take the student less than 2 minutes to answer and review.

Step by Step

Prerequisites

• Existing course assignment with video content
• Instructor access to HeatSpring platform

Step-by-Step Implementation Process

1. Access Assignment Settings
   • Navigate to the desired assignment
   • Click the "Edit" button
   • Scroll to the Knowledge Check section
     
2. Enable Knowledge Checks
   • Locate the "Enable Knowledge Check" option
   • Click to activate the feature
   • Select "Update Assignment"
     
3. Generate Questions
   • Choose "Generate Questions" option
   • Wait for the AI system to analyze the video transcript
   • System will automatically create relevant assessment questions
     
4. Review and Select Questions
   • Return to the assignment edit screen
   • Review all automatically generated questions
   • Select desired questions (can keep all or choose specific ones)
   • Click "Save and Publish"
     
5. Verify Implementation
   • Return to the assignment view
   • Confirm the Knowledge Check indicator appears
   • Preview the assignment in student view to ensure proper functionality
   • Verify questions appear after video completion
